Help a just world take root
2012-02-24
This is the slogan of this years' Development and Peace annual Share Lent. Beginning February 22, this campaign is a great opportunity to mark the work accomplished by its members and partners.
Development and Peace currently works in 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East on the following themes:
- Empowering women, indigenous groups and other marginalized people;
- Building democracy;
- Promoting peace;
- Local management of natural resources;
- Strengthening respect for human and environmental rights.
Whether it is helping domestic workers attain regulated working conditions in Bolivia or communities in Nigeria fight against forced evictions, the actions taken through their programs and partners are creating a world where there is justice for all and where people come first.
Development and Peace also takes part in emergency relief and reconstruction work in response to natural disasters and humanitarian crises.
This year, the campaign will branch to be very active on social media. The Development and Peace page on Facebook, for example, will feature one new message per day inviting members to announce their activities and initiatives in helping the movement. The organization's Twitter feed will also provide daily updates on the Share Lent campaign, and will feature the use of the #caremepartage hash tag to make Tweets easily searchable. Feel free to use and consult it when posting on Twitter.
As people of faith and conviction, we are asked to live our values of justice and solidarity through prayer, action and almsgiving.
That being said, let's all give generously and make a concrete action in order to support the organization.
